Three friends find happiness as they build a life during the few years between Germany's defeat in World War I and the rise of the Nazi party in this poignant classic. Disillusioned German soldiers Erich, Otto and Gottfried return home after the Armistice and open an auto repair shop. There, they meet Pat Hollman, the girlfriend of a wealthy motorist. The four become inseparable for a time.

Bookended by an awesome practical explosion and an expression of freedom that comes at heavy cost, "Three Comrades" soars on the idea of letting something die with spectacular meaning rather than cruel, casual disassembly.

A good story without much bite.

Three Comrades is finely written, produced and acted, but is so filled with desolation and the shadow of impoverishment and death, that movie-goers may find it rather bitter fare as entertainment.
