Starring Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables) and Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), this is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde. Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of – time. Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed. The film is based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, by Jane Hawking, and is directed by Academy Award® winner James Marsh (Man on Wire).

Every Movie Has a Lesson

While very well-intentioned to focus on the man over the persona, it feels skewed and short on glitz representative of someone larger-than-life such as Stephen Hawking.

There is still a good story to be found in “The Theory of Everything” despite its standard biopic flavor and rushed ending.

Redmayne's physical performance astounds, and Jones makes a wonderfully empathetic female lead. If only their performances were part of a better treatment of this worthy subject.

A standard biopic - there's loads of shots of Hawking furiously scribbling mathematical symbols on a chalkboard for instance - but Jones and Redmayne give this study of a scientific mind something special - heart.

While The Theory of Everything doesn't fully demonstrate the importance of Hawking and his work, Redmayne and Jones' performances are a beautiful tribute to the couple.
