What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Lego Scooby-Doo! Blowout Beach Bash is the second tandem release from Warner Brothers / Hanna-Barbera and the Lego toy company. Using the familiar voices of the Mystery Gang actors, it's a seamless transfer from animated characters to the little toy blocks. The classic troupe (Fred and Velma -- the brainiacs; Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, the ravenously hungry; and Daphne, the team-maker, confidence builder, and occasional fashionista) finds itself in the middle of a mystery and each brings individual personalities and skills to the story. Even within the limitations of the Lego forms, the animators provide some suspense and frights (a wild roller coaster ride; almost scary-looking ghosts who glow; crashes, swordplay, and chases). But, except for very young viewers, it's all within the limits of mild cartoon action and fine for those who understand the difference between pretend and real violence. Lego continues to expand its tie-in with Warner Brothers (DC Comics, etc.), so the marketing effort must be reaping pretty substantial rewards for all involved.
