Laurel (Kazan) has always been the odd wallflower, choosing to live at home with her father, while her glamorous identical twin, Audrey (Kazan), possesses the confidence and appeal to succeed in the big city. When tragedy strikes and Laurel is mistaken for her twin sister, she makes the impulsive decision to assume her sister’s identity and become The Pretty One. As she eases into her new, independent existence, Laurel discovers that she’s capable of accomplishments she had never before had dreamed of: excelling in a career, maintaining friendships and even finding love. An enjoyable distraction that's thankfully not afraid to be a bit more adult about matters of sexual attraction.

The Pretty One serves as director Jenée LaMarque's directorial debut, and while her style isn't revolutionary, it is a fun movie.

One of those films with such a rich premise, you can't believe it hasn't been made before, yet you sure believe it could've only been made by LaMarque.

[The script] takes a concept that sounds ludicrous on paper and handles it in an unexpectedly sincere, clever manner.

The film is trite on the surface, but through some complex plotting, writer-director Jenée LaMarque slyly incorporates foreboding themes of guilt and delusion that push the farcical elements to the brink.
