Academy Award winner Joan Crawford stars with John Garfield in a tour-de-force portrayal of playwright Clifford Odets drama of a brilliant young violinist from the slums whose career is fostered by an older, wealthy, alcoholic and sexually frustrated woman. While neither age, infidelity nor jealousy can end the illicit affair between the two lovers, the violinist's passion for his music eventually proves to be a stronger lure than love, sex or money in this powerful drama from Hollywood's Golden Age.
