Jennifer Garner (Daredevil, TV's "Alias") and Mark Ruffalo (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) star in this hilarious flash-forward romance about a pre-teen girl who goes from geek to glamorous. There are some neat lessons here, but they unfortunately get lost inside the wooden writing and character development.

It's not a perfect film, and nor does it have much that you've not seen before. You can predict it, you're unlikely to be surprised, but it's glossy and slick, and very easy to watch.

Garner makes the most of this humble, good-natured rom-com, propelling it from the minor leagues to the majors.

13 Going on 30, directed with a sweet touch by Gary Winick (Tadpole), is an immensely likable if unchallenging comedy.
