Devoid of urgency and intent on soapboxing, The Monuments Men takes a tremendously significant story and reduces it to an abbreviated, largely joyless experience.

If anything, this is a film of firm admiration a good-hearted salute to some of the wars unsung heroes who risked it all to help preserve a unifying culture in limbo.

With this World War II fact-drama drama that just lingers, unsure of what it wants to be, actor/director George Clooney argues that protecting a thousand works of art is worth the cost of a single life.

An earnestly told story but the lack of any real energy or surprises undermines its effectiveness.
