Critics Consensus: Emma Roberts is bubbly and charming as Nancy Drew, the junior detective. But despite her best efforts, Nancy Drew still lacks excitement, surprise, and compelling secondary characters.

And despite clunky dialogue, sometimes lamentable support and an inexplicable cameo by Bruce Willis (as himself), Roberts remains unflappable throughout.

Granted that the film is targeting preteen girls, it still fails to find appeal even on that restrictive level.

As played by Emma Roberts, Nancy boasts a plucky self-assuredness that inspires rather than annoys.
