While in Montreal for the reading of their dear friend Max's will, wealthy sophisticates Jonathan and Jennifer Hart (Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers) learn of a clock Max left for them with his niece, Marie. Meanwhile Marie's partner in their antique shop, Vivienne (Tara Slone), meets with her secret lover, Ronny (Jeff Kaake), the husband of Lady Camilla Ashley (Joan Collins, Dynasty), who arrives with a picture frame. Once he's gone, Vivienne opens the frame and removes an old, faded passport. Hearing footsteps, she frantically shoves it inside a clock--the clock Marie is keeping for the Harts. After Vivienne steals the clock, it is stolen and re-stolen, and figures in a kidnapping and a murder, while the Harts try to solve the riddle of its whereabouts by decoding a woman's dying words.
