On a life-or-death mission, an elite team of espionage agents must transport a Russian defector, while enemy spies, double agent and forces of nature conspire to kill the man as they speed across a frozen Europe aboard a train dubbed The Avalanche Express. When the head of the KGB, General Marenkov (Robert Shaw), defects to the West--with information about Soviet biological weapons--CIA agent Harry Wargrave (Lee Marvin) leads a team to get him out. Wargrave makes the risky decision to bring Marenkov across Europe by train to lure the Russians secret agents in to the open. But Wargrave does not plan on lethal double agents and a devastating avalanche.
