Academy Award winner Robert Donat (Goodbye Mr. Chips) stars as idealistic young Dr. Andrew Manson, who opens a practice in a small Scottish mining town. The doctor wages a much-needed battle against the lung disease that ravages the miners--and against the poverty in which he and his wife (Rosalind Russell) live--until accepting a lucrative medical practice in London. There, treating wealthy hypochondriacs who pay well for services they don't need, Dr. Mason realizes the true cost of turning his back on his wife and the truly sick people who need him.
