Greta Garbo stars as Mata Hari! Paris, World War I. Exotic, irresistible and lethal dancer Mata Hari (Garbo) entertains the Allies, seduces their generals and spies for the Germans. But the most beautiful and most dangerous spy of all time commits a fatal error by falling in love with the dashing Russian courier, Lt. Alexis Rosanoff (Ramon Novarro). When General Shubin (Academy Award winner Lionel Barrymore), whom she has seduced and betrayed, discovers the affair, Mata Hari shoots the general. But even as Mata Hari walks to her date before a firing squad, she sacrifices everything to protect the only man she has ever loved in this drama loosely based on the true story. Men worshipped her like a goddess, only to be betrayed by a kiss!
