The film follows a Scottish professor, Oliver Lindenbrook, who accidentally discovers a map of sorts with directions on how to reach the center of the Earth through an Icelandic crater. When the professor looks to his colleague Alec McEwen to verify his discovery, Alec turns on him and the two engage in a race to see who will reach the center of the Earth first.

There is an adequate amount of romance to conclude the story neatly, but the big thing in this engrossing movie is the sight and the sound and the wondering what's going to happen next. The incredible was never more vivid.

With this group, there are always opportunities for tea, moments for carrying a tune, terribly annoying sound effects, and unexplainable conveniences for survival.

The best value in nonsense for a very long time.

It can't help but delight fans of the genre, and Mason and Dahl's wonderful rapport provides the finishing touch.
