Overall, a very of-the-moment work, more of a snapshot than a portrait, more of a calling card than a vision. Its X rating won it some notoriety, but by today's standards it's fairly tame.

Fritz the Cat looks back at the supposed "good times" of the 1960s with a biting sensibility that scratches out the eyes of nearly every sacred liberal institution.

There's something unusually primitive about the artwork and the character designs; it's obvious that the artists aren't trying to craft a visually stunning masterpiece.

For a movie that's largely remembered for being "the dirty animal cartoon," Fritz the Cat is also a surprisingly biting socioeconomic critique of 1960s counterculture.

A singular, cohesive, and powerful vision, but it's also an alarmingly toxic one.
