The first half, which details the inner workings of the gambling industry, is compelling, but the human drama that takes over is noticeably lacking.

Casino is another solid epic for Martin Scorsese but it doesn't feel like it is ever at the same level as his masterpiece works.

Casino is a film showing a director at the top of his game in the middle of an especially hot streak. If not Scorsese’s strongest effort it is certainly worthy of appreciation.

Scorsese spends the first half of the sprawling three-hour epic laying out the entire operation in fascinating detail... and last half watching it all unravel through greed, arrogance, hubris, and the unleashed, monstrous id of Pesci’s blood simple thug..

Casino is a funny, brutal, chilling and engrossing film.
