Critics Consensus: Anthony Mackie capably takes up Cap's mantle and shield, but Brave New World is too routine and overstuffed with uninteresting easter eggs to feel like a worthy standalone adventure for this new Avengers leader.

Brave New World has its eyes set high in the skies but it ends up doubting itself by revisiting ghosts of the MCU. The result is a lacklustre instalment that fails to pull the universe out of its funk.

It's doubtful that Captain America: Brave New World will be anyone's favorite Captain America movie, but it does enough to still keep audiences invested in the MCU.

It's a solid entry into the MCU.

It’s too much to saddle his stand-alone film with this much exposition, and yet, Mackie and Onah bear it with as much grace as they can… a decent political thriller with something culturally resonant to say that exceeds mere comic-book particulars.

If “Brave New World” isn’t an event film, at least it’s competently executed, without resorting to played-out gimmickry such as skipping across the multiverse. And it gives the audience plenty of analogues for real-world problems.
