When recent widow Lucy Muir (Gene Tierney) rents a house by the ocean, she discovers that it’s haunted by a cantankerous sea captain (Rex Harrison). In an unlikely turn of events, the two develop a friendship. The captain even helps her earn money by “ghostwriting” a book. Eventually, they fall in love, but their romance is challenged when a flesh-and-blood suitor (George Sanders) turns up.
