Considering how out there the plot is, Nightbitch holds back too much and doesn’t embrace its weirdness. It chooses to focus on ambiguity rather than completely letting go.

A waste of time, energy and talent while proving to be a real howler.

The movie essentially gets stuck delivering variations on the idea of Mother splitting into two selves, the domestic and the feral. The audience has a right to demand, “So where does this lead?” The answer is nowhere in particular.

Overall, the film’s repetitiveness – how many ways can one show repressed rage – weakens the intention because the points aren’t hard-hitting. Of course, this topic is worth focusing on, but the clumsy way it’s handled is just too weird to be effective.

Before her movie's done, Heller files away the movie's sharpest edges, sending us out of the theater disappointed rather than stimulated by the story's satirical sting.
