Sarah was an inexperienced climber. She trusted Gabe to rescue her. But something went wrong high above the valley floor...Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow, Michael Rooker, Janine Turner and Ralph Waite star in this high-altitude avalanche of action: a non-stop adventure peak with suspense and capped with heart-quaking terror. For Rocky Mountain Rescue, the mission is almost routine: locate five climbers. With the woman he loves (Turner) and his best friend (Rooker), Gabe Walker (Stallone) braves the icy peaks only to discover that the distress call is really a trap set by merciless international terrorist Eric Qualen (Lithgow). Now millions of dollars and their own lives hang in the balance. Against explosive firepower, bitter cold, and dizzying heights, Walker must outwit Qualen in a deadly game of hide-and-seek.

What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Cliffhanger is a '90s action adventure, starring Sylvester Stallone, with bloody violence and some strong language. Stallone plays Gabe Walker, an expert rock climber who becomes embroiled in a high-altitude rescue mission involving a gang of thieves led by Eric Qualen (John Lithgow). The movie's main themes revolve around showing bravery and courage, as well as forgiveness as Walker tries to come to terms with a tragic accident from his past. In contrast, Qualen and his cohorts are amoral and have no loyalty to each other, only a shared interest in money. Violence is frequent and bloody, with a variety of fights instigated by Qualen's criminal gang. These range from a daring midair robbery featuring gunfire and death to mountainside fights involving guns and sharp instruments. Bloody injuries are frequent, as are scenes of peril when people fall from great heights to their deaths. There is strong language used throughout, including "s--t," "f--k," "motherf----r," and "bitch." There is very little diversity within the movie, with women and non-White actors relegated to supporting roles. In one scene, one of the few Black characters is referred to as "boy." Some of the characters are occasionally seen smoking cigarettes.
