What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Persuasion is a 1995 adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel. This romance is fraught with lies, gossip, and manipulation, but very little in the way of sex or violence. Two people fall and injure themselves seriously: one, a child and the other, a teenage girl. The child falls off-screen and is carried limply back to his home. The teen falls on-screen and appears for a moment to have died. "Damn" is infrequently used, and there's pipe smoking as well as wine drinking. While many kids, particularly younger kids, are likely to find the movie to be too slow, older kids who are just beginning to discover Jane Austen's books and media adaptations are likely to enjoy this story of love finding a way to work out in the end, even if it takes decades.
