New York City architect Natalie (Rebel Wilson) works hard to get noticed at her job, but is more likely to be asked to deliver coffee and bagels than to design the city's next skyscraper. And if things weren't bad enough, Natalie, a lifelong cynic when it comes to love, has an encounter with a mugger that renders her unconscious, waking to discover that her life has suddenly become her worst nightmare -- a romantic comedy -- and she is the leading lady.

The trick here is a delicate balance: Being smart without showing off, being ironic without getting mean; being funny without getting too esoteric or simplistic, and never lingering on one scene for too long or wearing out your welcome.

“Isn’t It Romantic” is a decent entry into the head bonk genre. It’s not a terrible movie, but it’s far from being the sharp-witted satire that it very well could have been.

Rebel Wilson takes center stage in her first real lead role in Isn’t It Romantic, a charming (some may say “beguiling”), sometimes quite clever, and ultimately pointless comedy because of its lack of conviction in seeing its message all the way through.

It's not great... just superficially funny.

A total delight.
