When the psychopathic son of a mass-murdering doctor escapes from a mental institution, he seeks revenge on the citizens of the town where his father was finally captured. The giggling new "doctor" uses the surgical skills he picked up from his father and a near-lifetime spent in and around medical facilities to gruesomely murder his victims while he seeks the chance to perform his ultimate revenge -- performing a heart transplant on one of the townsfolk a heart transplant, without anesthesia!

Critics Consensus: Larry Drake's deranged performance as the titular doctor is just about all that distinguishes Dr. Giggles from its slasher brethren.

Dr. Giggles is good fun. Drake has a good supporting cast to help things move along at a good pace and there are a few neat practical effects scattered around.

A generally uninteresting and unambitious slice of generic horror. The only thing remarkable is the rigor with which it places every possible double entendre about medicine and death on the lips of Larry Drake, who is at least having a good time here.

No doubt Larry Drake owns the role and it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the title character in [Dr. Giggles].

At this late date, the rules of the adolescent slice-'n'-dice genre have codified into ritual (teens + sex = death), suggesting that those who rent this may have bigger problems than just bad taste.

The doctor's incessant giggling is supposed to represent the outlet of childhood psychological trauma, but don't expect Dr. Giggles to give Drake's performance a sympathetic or tragic dimension.
