In 2006 over two million Americans were incarcerated but only one managed to escape a federal maximum-security wing while under 24-hour surveillance: Quawntay "Bosco" Adams. For the chance to be at his first child's birth, he planned an ingenious escape with the help of a lonely Missouri woman that he meets by replying to a personal ad.

The true-story finale is given away in the very beginning as if to implore the viewer to stick around to watch just how Adams manages to escape a maximum-security prison, but the final act feels rushed and unsatisfying.

Prison films are an underrated genre, and Pino’s film is a more than worthy addition to the great family of films that take place behind bars.

... It references the canon of prison escape films and allows space for Aubrey Joseph to ably interpret and invite us into Quawntay Adams’ inner life.

Aubrey Joseph gives a raw, powerful performance in Peacock's Bosco.

The title character generates hard-earned sympathy in this earnest prison drama, but his true-life saga of resilience and redemption is handcuffed by shallow characters and genre tropes.
