If you've ever watched Gremlins and thought, "This would be really good with murderous elves", There's Something in the Barn is the bloody, festive treat for you.

While the first half of the movie is slower in pace and not incredibly engaging, the second half goes off the rails and becomes bat-crap crazy with exciting visuals, terrific practical effects, and an exciting non-stop rabid pursuit.

For the first few minutes I thought it was a kids’ film, which gives you an inkling as to the general approach – right up until a teenager dropped the f-word.

An okay diversion but it falters a lot due to its confused tone, and frustrating narrative.

Directed by Magnus Martens, who has plenty of genre TV under his belt, this throwback to the '80s creature feature manages to balance the comedy with some surprisingly gory moments.
