Everyone on screen is in agreement that success was hard-earned, but that it couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke. If you're hoping for scandal or dirt, you won't find a skerrick here.

By the end we have a good overview of his career but not the man himself.

Brilliant doco that tells the story of how one of Australia's national treasures got to the spot where he released one of the highest selling albums of all time. Perhaps could have had more on his personal life but still an amazing film.

Reinforces two core contrasts: that great music is eternal, but even superstars are only flesh and blood; and that the tunes that last seem like easy hits, but so often spring from a lifetime of hard work.

It's a great story, true. Albeit a familiar one. But Stockell deploys some truly perplexing and frustrating editing and sound mix choices that hamper it.
